Summer 2007 Recreational Food Fishery: (20 Photos)
20. The 2007 Recreational Food Fishery took place from July 30th to August 19th, following the same rules set in place last year with a personal limit of 5 groudfish per day, 15 fish per boat.
19. This promised to be an exciting year as the Don and Harry French purchased a pair of brand new fibreglass boats earlier this year. The new boats are identical 18' Ocean Fisher bow riders each fitted with a 90hp Yamaha outboard. This is a huge upgrade over the not so seaworthy 14" aluminum boats they recently sold.
18. Earlier this year, we brought Sandra's late Father's 21' Seabreeze open boat to my Dad's summer house in Bay Roberts. Over the course of a few weekends we did some maintenance and made a bunch of repairs to get it ready for the summer food fishery.
17. We replaced the broken steering cable, replaced very stiff throttle cables, rebuilt the wheel house, painted the inside of the boat, installed new gunnels, tuned up the 60hp Mariner 2-stroke outboard, and had the damaged prop professionally repaired.

14. Once we had the boat ready we needed a place to berth it for the fishery. Dad arranged a berth at an old privately owned wharf in Bay Roberts where he, Gerry Young and I spent a full morning making repairs to the walk way and ladder.

9. That summer we made quite a few trips on Conception Bay leaving from Bay Roberts in Sandra's Father's Boat. We managed to catch our quota that day and most days we went out.

7. On opening day Sandra, Dad and I headed out and I caught the first and what would be the largest Cod Fish of the season!

1. French really enjoyed their new boat logging lots of hours and catching plenty of fish, some say he even learned how to count to 15 that summer!
Cheers, MIKE
